Kofi Annan to encourage the South
UN Secretary General
Kofi Annan seized the opportunity at the Davos Forum to
demand a re-balancing of commercial exchanges between the
North and South. He said that, confrontations, the reality of
terror attacks and economic uncertainties in the world have
affected international order as a whole.
The business world
must now play a pivoting role to avoid those conflicts,
which oftentimes are directly liked to struggles for control
over natural resources, and focus their efforts
to promoting transparency while
fighting corruption which are
proven to be efficient measures to avoid conflicts.
IMMIGRATION, PART OF THE SOLUTION
Immegration is an
opportunity not a problem for Europe, the words of UN
Secretary General Kofi Annan, at the European Parliament
where he received the Sakharov Award, for his defence of
human rights. “Europe is in need of immigrants”. He said, in
his acceptation address in Brussels.
A closed Europe
means a harder and poorer place, much weaker and older.
Immigration is part of the solution, not of the problem, and
should not be designated as the source of all social evils
In an article
publish by the French press “Le Monde”, Kofi Annan affirmed
that the aging European Society need immigration. European
Union nations may, in the near future, lack the manpower
needed to propel the economy and ensure certain services.
No one should
undermine the insurmountable contribution that millions of
immigrants have brought to modern European societies. Many
grace the floors of health establishments, care for
your loved
ones while you're absent, cultivate the fields and so much more. Kofi Annan concluded
by saying that, “an open Europe,
capable of the proper administration of its immigration, is a just
Europe, richer, stronger and a much younger
Europe”.
