Alcan annual durability Prize
World leader of Aluminium and Aluminum
recycling products ALCAN, promised at the annual Word
Economic Forum in Davos, the creation of an annual Prize of
1million US dollars geared to underline exceptional
contributions in the non-profit sector for realization and
durability of their objectives.
The International Business Leaders Forum
(IBLF) will administer the Alcan Prize for durability, with
head offices in the UK. It will be ministered by a
prestigious group of international Judges, selected by
reason of their achievements and knowledge of the
principles and promotion
of durability practices.
Mr. José-Maria Figueres, Co-President of
the World Economic Forum (WEF ) and former President of
Costa Rica, accepted the invitation to preside on the
selection committee for 2004. Candidates for this prize,
include
all organizations of Civil Society, non-governmental and
non-profit, which have made and continue to make major
contributions with the integrity of economic, social and
environmental durability, for the benefit of present and
future generations.
In addition to the 1million dollar prize
awarded
to a given organization, the Selection Committee could, if
it so chooses, award Alcan scholarships based on merit, to
the finalists. These scholarships, are to promote
reinforcement of capacities. It will allow the the
beneficiary organization the opportunity to pursue
the
(Program for Industry)
program, from the University of Cambridge
in
England, and from there,
obtain a certificate of superior studies in
inter-sector partnerships.
Mr.Travis Engen, President and Chief
Executive of Alcan Inc., said that his company is proud to
be recognized among the world leaders of durability
promotion as an administrative concept. “We firmly believe
that our success as an international enterprise, is directly
linked to actions posed inside as well as outside of our
boardrooms”. He also said that the Alcan prize for
durability, at the international level, is the logical
succession of the Community investment programs of our
society, which has overtime, sustained and created programs
based on durability at a local and regional level.
Mr. José-Maria Figueres, President of the
selection committee said he is convinced, of the importance
of creating ties with different actors, usually of different
sectors, working on divers aspects of durability
program, this, he
said, is one of the main reasons for his accepting the
nomination as
President of the ALCAN Durability Prize
Committee.
Robert Davies, CEO of the International
Business Leaders Forum, who presently heads the Alcan
Prize, commented in these terms: The Alcan Prize for durability have
reinforced and supported the work of crucial partnerships
with non-governmental organizations, particularly those
applying themselves to the advancement of durable
development. Alcan employs 88 000 and has exploitation
unites in 63 countries.
